I took a break from Kpop for a while because EVERY group that I ended up stanning had some skeletons in their closet.
And atp, even in the year 2026, there isn’t a SINGLE group I can actively think of that is perfectly “squeaky clean” as one may put it. Every group has had members who have said problematic things in the last few years, or maybe up until 5 years ago.
Even groups that rank low on the problematic scale, as in groups that are pretty famous and are decent in terms of their scandals, still have old posts talking about cultural insensitivity or some weird thing one person said like 4 years ago.
I consider myself a very progressive person, but more than that, I just consider myself to be a decent human being who is actively trying to be as informed and respectful as possible. I try to make sure I’m not ignorant and rude as much as I can, but it’s so hard to do that when Kpop is the one guilty pleasure in my life.
I’ve had to unstan some groups that I love because I found out weird things about them. And even though I still stan some groups that are not exactly the most “squeaky clean” I feel an immense dilemma over liking them.
So how do you guys deal with it? Would love to hear some nuanced takes.
