Maybe it’s time for fans to stop getting so attached to their fav groups

It seems to me that many kpop fans are more drawn to the drama than the music itself, and what I sometimes don’t understand about is why they always feel the need to take sides and get involved in the drama. Someone on Reddit told me you can’t be a fan of both NewJeans and ILLIT. I was like, why not? I guess people are saying that because they’re diving too deeply into the whole thing. If you look at other music scenes, people aren’t always like that.

For instance, Anthony Kiedis accused Mike Patton of copying his style. Much later, he got Mike’s band booted from a few festivals, and things got messy. In that situation, Pepper fans didn’t start a hate train toward MP or vice versa because their beef is their business and has nothing to do with us fans. It’s not even a secret that some Chili fans also like FNM.

I think everyone in the kpop scene should be doing more of that. Whatever issues between groups, accusations, or legal cases your ults are dealing with, it’s not really your business to get involved. All we have to do as fans is listen to their music, watch their performances, or buy their records. I don’t think you need to do anything else beyond that. So it doesn’t make any sense to me to see all the megathreads about lawsuits, scandals, and other drama that have nothing to do with music. Ironically, those threads draw more interaction than the ones that actually discuss songs and albums.

My point is, kpop fans shouldn’t get too attached to their fav groups. If your ults are in legal trouble or facing accusations, it’s not your fight, so stop acting like it is, it never was. Of course, you can support them by wishing them good luck, and that’s the best you can do.
