I think people took Bruno’s comments the wrong way. He never mentioned BTS or questioned their legacy, which is obviously massive. BTS changed the industry and proved how far fandom-driven success can go in the West.
What Bruno was actually talking about was a specific kind of moment. The type where a song becomes inescapable to the general public, like Gangnam Style. APT. with ROSÉ had that feel. People knew it even if they weren’t Bruno or Rosé fans. BTS have plenty of huge songs, but in the West most of them live mainly within the fandom. The big exception is Dynamite, which genuinely crossed over with the general public. Both things can be true. BTS’s legacy is huge, and Bruno wasn’t dismissing it. He was just talking about how rare that level of public saturation is.
Also, calling Bruno losing the Grammy with Rosé “karma” feels a bit silly when nominations themselves are already prestigious, and BTS being nominated two years in a row only reinforces how respected they are by the Academy. Yes xenophobia plays a part, but it’s not the sole explanation for how the industry or awards operate.
