Our family was denied entry to South Korea despite valid medical visas. We were held for 5 days in transit with two small children — in conditions worse than a detention cell.

We arrived with:

valid medical visas

a confirmed appointment at Asan Medical Center

all medical documents for our 2-year-old son

hotel booking, flight tickets, financial proof

We came ONLY for a post-surgery consultation.

But after landing, immigration took us aside, held us for hours, and then said:

“Entry denied.” No reason. No document. No explanation.

They took our passports and restricted our movement.

What happened during the 5 days:

First 24 hours we slept on cold metal benches, under freezing air

Then we were locked in a small room with CCTV, like detainees

There was a shower but no soap, no towels, no basic hygiene items

There was no hot water at all — not even to drink

We could not heat food, prepare baby meals, or even make instant noodles

One child was vomiting at night

I had fever for 3 days — they gave no medicine

Two toddlers lived for days in conditions worse than a holding cell

Requests for medical help — ignored

Requests for explanation — ignored

Asan Hospital and the embassy could not help

We were forcibly deported on day 5

We came to South Korea to treat our child. Instead, we were treated with coldness, cruelty, and complete indifference.

My questions:

  1. Is this normal for South Korea — to detain families with children in such conditions?

  2. How can we obtain the official reason for denial, since they refuse to provide it?

  3. Where can we file a complaint or seek justice?

We are shocked and devastated. If anyone has experience, contacts, or real solutions — please share.
