The viral podcast about Jennie and IU should be talked about

Just to clarify it’s this podcast where they talk about how top Korean celebrities can all be solicited for a certain price.

They say you can go directly to the company and buy a night with a celebrity and specifically mention IU and Jennie.

This created an uproar among kpop fans for obvious reasons but there seems to be a nuance missing.

I’m not certain if fans are naive or going so far to disapprove the allegations against IU and Jennie by saying that it’s completely false and it’s simply people trying to sensationalise the dark side of kpop.

What I’m about to say isn’t meant to be taken as supporting the podcasters-they seem pretty awful to begin with, nor to try and say their allegations against IU and Jennie are true.

Celebrities being solicited isn’t anything particulary new in entertainment world. This is something that goes back to old-Hollywood and even Opera Houses in 19th century.

Korea has already had a scandal with a company forcing actresses to do sexual favors to top executives, CEO’s, businessmen etc and the actress that revealed it Jang Ja-Yeon never really recieved justice for what has been done to her.

Dalshabet’s Serri has even adressed sponsors in the industry and how some will approach companies or idols directly and offer money for sexual favors.

While I don’t think IU and Jennie have ever been victims of this and podcasters used their names just to get more popularity for their podcast I don’t think that it’s so completely out of the realm of possibilities that not much has really changed in the Korean entertainment industry.
