Hi everyone, due to the sheer lack of Korean history resources that are translated in English I’m having a hard time finding information on the topic I’ve been interested in due to consuming a fair amount of periodic Korean dramas.
From my memory, men from yangbang class were referred to as “degam” which I believe is for head of the family and someone who has a very high government position and “nari” for other lords who aren’t head of the house. And I believe “agashii” which is still used to describe a young unmarried women in Korea was used to describe an unmarried young girl of an upper class yangbang family.
My question is: no matter how many dramas I’ve seen, I never see a clear way that the wives of noblemen especially a nari’s wife are referred to. What were they called after they got married, since they were no longer ‘agashii’? Is it “Buin” or perhaps “manim”? The internet has some information but I think it just made me more confused. I just want to know what the “normal” yangbang wives were called as I do not remember how they were referred to in the dramas and it’s really annoying me that there isn’t enough materials on it out there!
