*Reposted, because apparently original question led everybody to focus on different thing.
Just a note: I have no idea about how Grammy works and what other categories it has, I just got this idea and wanted to ask for your opinions.*
So what if Grammy instead of making “Asian pop” category (and potentially lately “mid eastern”, “African” or “latam” (not Latino) categories), would make “USA edition” for their major categories? For example:
Song of the year (USA edition) + Song of the year (global edition)
Album of the year (USA edition) + Album of the year (global edition)
USA edition: artists should be born and/or raised in States (+only English, if they want it so much) Global edition: anyone can get no matter of their nationality and the language.
This way they will guarantee for an American artist to get an award, but also include any other musical act that was popular enough.
So, what are your thoughts?
P.S. I just did some quick research (on Wikipedia) and now I’m even more confused with their categories. Like, some genre-specific ones I get, but “Latin Rock”? Am I missing something here?
And apparently, new Asian category is only for “Pop and Dance”.
