What are your opinions on what should go into Budae-jjigae?

Hi. Korean here. This has been on my mind for a good while, and I was wondering if I’m alone on this opinion.

Might come across as a bit of a hot take, but I think that budae-jjigae isn’t budae-jjigae if it doesn’t have kimchi, spam, and vienna sausages in it. Other things I like to add include baked beans and tofu.

When I last visited Korea, I went to a restaurant somewhere near Paju that only put bok choy and tofu in it with a very mild broth. That was the weirdest budae-jjigae I had ever eaten, but it made me wonder just how far the range of ingredients that can be put in it goes.
