There is a disconnect between negative social media sentiment for a Kpop group and their reality

People spend so much time, effort and emotional energy slandering Kpop artists online. They willfully spread misinformation, get bitter about other’s success, form hive minds seeking validation from one another and stand on a false moral high ground because nobody is perfect including the accuser. I find it funny people pour all of this energy and effort but you take a look at the person being slandered, they are doing just fine and by the metrics defined by this world, they are actually thriving and very successful.

More and more these days, I really observe first hand how social media sentiment is in its own vacuum especially with Kpop. Just look at the like to comment ratio of any controversial group. They can have a 100K+ likes with maybe 3K comments with 2/3 of them being negative in extreme cases. In the grand scheme of things it just looks like negative sentiment doesn’t matter one bit.

Personally there isn’t any group that I don’t like enough to pour my energy into camping in their comment section and terrorizing their fans. It’s ridiculous and meaningless. Also, it’s not a nice thing to do. I will acknowledge that tarnishing someone’s reputation online, celebrity or not, can be consequential and have real impact. I just observed that in Kpop there is a disconnect between social media sentiment and reality, for better or for worse.
