Do I like the new song? Heeeeeeeeell no. But their experimentation doesnt bother me. Theyre still rookies. If they want to play around with different concepts and see what works thats completely normal. People complain when a group sticks to one sound and then complain again when they change so how are they ever supposed to make anyone happy?
When Red Velvet released Happiness, Automatic, and Dumb Dumb no one was breaking down their “identity.” When aespa put out Better Things and dabbles in R&B on their bsides no ones stressing about consistency. BTS is a group that has tried nearly every genre imaginable and no one questioned their identity because of it. Same with SNSD, TXT, BTOB, (G)I-DLE… none of them released the same type of music their entire career. Experimentation has always been part of the process. So Katseye going from Debut to Touch to Gnarly and now Internet Girl is literally no different.
A couple months ago people dragged ILLIT for Do The Dance because they thought everything they put out sounded the same. Now youre dragging Katseye because their songs dont sound the same? Be serious 😂
Rookie years are usually messy and full of trial and error. Most groups dont debut with a perfectly defined sound. They develop it over time through trying things and figuring out what fits. Not every comeback has to be a major artistic statement. Sometimes its just a team exploring ideas. And if the ideas are camp then stop listening to it because youre giving them exactly what they want. Streams and Attention.
And after all, youre the ones who made Gnarly their most popular song… so it really shouldnt be surprising that theyd keep leaning into the weird stuff.
