The use of k-pop idols/ symbolism in politics

I’m gonna start this saying that I of course understand that everything and and every action is political.

I don’t know if this post goes against the rules, if it’s possible I would like to have a civil discussion about the use of k-pop imagery to promote electoral politics in international spaces.

For context, my country is going through highly polarized elections (well, it seems to be the current state of most of the democracies right now) For reasons I’m not gonna go deeper a sort o kpop stan movement got reactivated and is campaigning on social media promoting voting for the officialism candidate rather than a rightwing very questionable guy that is going against. This is leading to some arguments:

  1. While a big chunk of k-pop stans are favoring the left-wing candidate, saying that idols like BTS have songs about social issues and it’s coherent to support this candidate but some other stans are in disagree be it because they support the other candidate, neither option (this is a second round) or are against using k-pop as a political tool considering that while BTS or other idols touch social topics South Korea’s and out countries issues doesn’t compare

  2. Locals, specially those supporting the right-wing candidate are mocking the leftist k-pop stans saying SK is basically a capitalist country and it doesn’t make sense to use kpop idols to support a candidate that goes basically against what the industry represents. Some also argue about the bad impression kpop ends up having with locals enforcing stereotypes.

  3. Also there’s the use of IA making edits of BTS (considering they have the biggest fanbase) with the leftwing candidate, even some armies are advising against it, because again BTS or any idol endorses any candidate even less candidates or random countries.

Considering reddit is filled with mostly people from English speaking countries I would like to know your opinions on this matter as third parties not involved in this (painful) elections.
