Full disclosure: I am a Deobi. My ults are the Boyz. All of my opinions are biased.
So when the Boyz started looking around for a new company there was an interesting and glaring gap in the market. They had very few choices when looking for a new company. The big companies dont want groups they haven’t controlled from the beginning. And really small companies couldn’t afford the budgets for a somewhat successful group. There are few choices. They could have re-newed with the old company, (but rumor was they only wanted to take 7 of the 11) or start their own company, but finding enough investment capital when you have been underpaid for the last 7 years is tough.
Enter 100/ BPM. This was a company that many seniors were involved with. There was the backing of Cha Ga Won who made her fortune in luxury real estate development and could presumably get fantastic housing for the artists and if they wanted, the stability of owning property with a sweet deal from a signing bonus. And there was also an entertainment veteran in MC Mong. He knew all the ins and outs of making a record, a music video and creating performance moments that were memorable. But with a checkered past maybe he would be extra careful with his artist‘s reputation. This is what we were all hoping for. None of it came to pass. So much damage has been done to ALL of their artists. The company executives have turned out to be absolutely rotten. MC Mong is a huge manchild that won’t take responsibility for anything. He has gone on several livestreams to claim his innocence and blame others but.. dude. We all know you are a piece of…
And Cha Ga Won has apparently been grossly inflating the prices of her luxury condos to the Idols that choose to live in them. And has even been accused of stealing the deposits that the idols put down for them (I don’t pretend to understand SK real estate).
But what really kills me is that this should have worked. With non-corrupt partners this company could have been really successful. Think of it in abstract: a company helmed artistically by a veteran performer with tons of hits and contacts. Paired with a rich partner that can offer a discount on a lovely and stable home that can give veteran idols an asset to give them financial stability for their future. And they snap up groups from other companies that really deserve to be paid what they are worth, when there are not enough options for them and still have lots of money making potential.
Think of the super group potential they had!
And they screwed it all up.
