Short Stuff 75 : WE SKI FLATFISH, heuleul, Garlic Pasta Social Club, Neeha, The Vastards

Garlic Pasta Social Club Played Tape single cover

WE SKI FLATFISH : City Epilogue

WE SKI FLATFISH‘s debut single displays two separate but similar styles. “City Epilogue” is a pop rock/pop punk high-energy song that starts strong and never lets up. “The Game Changer” leans more into rock with a pop sensibility. The style and energy remind me a bit of QWER.

heuleul : PLAY PLAY PLAY

“PLAY PLAY PLAY” feels like a play at nostalgia. The instrumentals sound like old-style R&B with a Baltimore club infusion. heuleul knows the style she’s going after.

Garlic Pasta Social Club : Played Tape

Garlic Pasta Social Club plays three different types of rock on their three-song single. “moan” is a mellow and sparse track. “The day the light disappears in this world” is an expansive modern rock song. “Unwished night” is their ballad. It’s an impressive introduction.

Neeha : Nansae

“Nansae” is based in folk rock with a sprinkle of pop rock. Neeha knows how to use melodies across the vocals and the instrumentals to create a warm and welcoming tone.

The Vastards : LETO

“LETO” is basically the perfect rock song to showcase The Vastards. It’s direct rock and roll without a lot of embellishments and simply great to hear. I’m not entirely sure of the differences with “OTEL.” It doesn’t sound like a reverse version, but more like it’s presenting different energy.
