My personal opinion on the K-pop girl group concerts I’ve attended.

I’m lucky to live in California, so if a girl group has a world tour, there is a very high chance they stop by near me. Hence why I’ve managed to attend quite a few of them, here are just my personal opinions on the shows. I don’t claim to be a musical expert and obviously I have my preferences, but I will try to not be too biased.

The overall ranking:

  1. Blackpink
  2. Baemon
  3. NMIXX
  4. Le Sserafim
  5. IVE
  6. ITZY
  7. Twice
  8. STAYC
  9. Fifty Fifty
  10. KIOF
  11. fromis_9
  12. ARTMS
  13. tripleS

Blackpink are my ults, so naturally they are at the top. Honestly they might not be the most consistent performers, but for me personally nobody else can really compete with their discography / stage presence. They also don’t have a lot of songs, so you get basically their entire run of hits + all notable b-sides at the show, so that’s really nice. Every part of the setlist is just familiar bangers.

BabyMonster and NMIXX are the two best performing groups I’ve seen live. No matter if you are a huge fan of their songs or not, their shows have insane energy, and more importantly the idols are simply outstanding. It’s live from start to finish, no lipsync at all, at most you get the occasional backtrack for the intense choreo moments, but both groups give their all. NMIXX were more polished, it was basically a team full of professionals at work killing it, while Baemon were a bit more overexcited, eager to showcase themselves. They made some mistakes but honestly it never took away from the experience.

IVE used to be above Le Sserafim for me in terms of concert ranking, but their last tour was noticeably worse than the one prior (in my opinion). The worse production, less effort, and frankly only Yujin was a huge standout. Still a great discography, but the overall group is not excellent performers and it definitely shows when they are not in their best form. Le Sserafim has amazing production and a ton of stage presence, they are all very charismatic performers. You get less live singing compared to the groups at the top of my list, but if you like their music, it’s for sure worth attending (I’m going to their LA stop tonight). ITZY are similar to Le Sserafim in that regard, exceptional performers and bring a very enjoyable spectacle to the stage. You get more live singing, but the worse discography.

Twice would probably be higher if I attended other tour than Ready To Be one. But I honestly just didn’t like that album very much, and all of their hits were turned into one mash-up which was kind of unfortunate, because honestly the stadium was the loudest during that part. STAYC, Fifty Fifty, KIOF, fromis_9 were pretty decent shows, the ranking depends solely on which group you like more and what you prioritize in a concert: discography quality or live singing. I honestly had higher expectations for KIOF, but their backtrack was pretty loud, they were really good performers though.

ARTMS and tripleS just lipsync’ed at least 80% of their concerts, including slower songs that had no choreo, so they go to the bottom of my list. And ModHaus is definitely in my “unlikely to attend again” category, there is just no respect for live vocals at all.

I’ve seen a lot of other groups at their fanmeetings and KCON apperances, so here are the few acts that I want to see at their own shows: MEOVV, Hearts2Hearts, Rescene.

Oh, and I haven’t attended an Aespa concert yet due to the combination of unfortunate timing, expensive tickets and mixed reviews, but I am going to their LA stop of the current tour which happens in a few weeks!
