matched 3 distilled sojus with the anju that actually goes with them

follow up to a post I made about distilled soju — this time it’s about what to eat with them

hwayo 25 + dubu-kimchi (두부김치). this soju is super smooth and mild so it needs something that doesn’t overpower it. the soft tofu mirrors the softness of the soju and the stir-fried kimchi on top gives it just enough kick. classic pocha combo

ilpoom jinro + samgyeopsal. this one has more body so it can stand up to grilled pork belly. the soju cuts right through the fat, cleans your mouth, ready for the next bite. honestly this pairing is basically a religion in korea lol

tokki soju + nothing lol. or like… nuts and dried fruit. tokki has enough aroma and character to sip on its own. pairing it with heavy food buries what makes it interesting. this is a 혼술 (solo drinking) bottle

wrote up the whole thing with the “unwritten rules” of a korean drinking table that nobody tells foreigners about: https://thehanjan.substack.com/p/soju-needs-food

what’s your go-to anju? I feel like everyone has a completely different answer
