Making Watermelon Punch, Shaved Ice, and Storing Watermelon

Summer is officially here!

I bought a huge watermelon, a total summer essential. I stored the watermelon and made some refreshing Subak-Hwache and Patbingsu.

Every summer, our family buys ingredients from the grocery store to stock up, and we make our own shaved ice at home using a machine. I bought this ice shaver for about $25 five years ago, and I’m still using it well. Highly recommend it! lol

It’s getting pretty hot outside, so everyone, beat the heat and stay healthy!

When storing a watermelon, it’s highly recommended to thoroughly wash the rind with dish soap or a heavily diluted bleach solution. This prevents bacteria or impurities on the outside from transferring to the inside while cutting, allowing the watermelon to stay fresh and safe to eat for a longer period. For more detailed and accurate safety guidelines, I recommend doing a quick search online!

Patbingsu Ingredients

Sweet red bean paste (Canned)

Vanilla ice cream

Mini mochi bites

Bingsu jelly

Canned fruit cocktail

Sweetened condensed milk

Milk

Roasted soybean powder

Ice shaver

For Subak-Hwache, I highly recommend mixing strawberry milk with Sprite, or just using Milkis. Then, simply add your favorite fruits like watermelon, cherry tomatoes, Korean melon, bananas, and canned fruit cocktail.
