Likelihood of an Idol being successful after leaving their group and/or company…

This question stems from Golden Child. I got interested in the group in late 2020, listened to some of their songs in 2021 – 2022.

I had some things going on that year so I took a break from much of K-pop. But this year, I wanted to get back into the fandom. Today I searched up the group and found out Bomin, Tag, and Jibeom left!

I have never started listening to a group that has disbanded/members that left. I love being in the moment with the group.

Something similar also happened with BDC. (Their members were from Produce 101.) They are from Brand New Music. Their promotions fizzled out and they disbanded after 3 years. It really hurts because I followed them from debut, and their discography ended up being rather small.

Something else I would think about is how many groups after a long hiatus/disbanding usually never have much success as individual idols.

Examples to thwart this thought process is G-Dragon and Zico, and Park Hyungsik and Im Siwan in the acting sector after ZE:A.

I know that Bomin will likely be fine, and hopefully will continue to have success with acting. I’m worried for the other members.

It frustrates me to see that more often than not when an idol leaves their group/company (not due a scandal, just contract stuff), they do not become very successful.

I understand some idols might just want to go on and have a private life, and 100% support that. But I know that many others want to go on and do more, but it just seems like they don’t get that chance.

It also makes me think about Astro. I know Eunwoo’s the most popular, and with Moonbin’s passing last year, I’m not sure if their group will continue.
