South Korean telecom service provider KT Corp. has built a large language model (LLM) platform tailored for the Thai market in collaboration with Jasmine Technology Solution (JTS), a Thai IT company.

The platform includes a Thai-specific LLM, a large language model operation system LLMOps and a GPU Farm, a cluster of servers used for data processing, KT said on Monday.

The LLM launch marked the first time a South Korean company has built and deployed an end-to-end generative AI infrastructure abroad, enabling the development, operation and scaling of AI services in an overseas market.

It has been trained on extensive local datasets to respond accurately to queries involving Thai politics, history and culture. It is able to process Thai, English and Korean languages.

KT has also joined hands with Korean AI startup Upstage for the LLM development, after winning the project from JTS in March last year. In 2023, KT invested 10 billion won ($7 million) in Upstage.

JTS will roll out a GPU-as-a-Service offering for Thai companies and institutions based on the LLM.

“The successful development and commercialization of a Thai-focused LLM demonstrates KT’s technical and global capabilities in AI,” said Lee Jin Hyoung, vice president in charge of AI business and investment at KT.

“Building on this experience and our strategic alliances with Microsoft and Palantir, we’ll continue to diversify our AI and cloud service offerings,” he added.
