Kpop industry/idols and the drinking culture

I saw an interview where the idea was conveyed that ‘drinking 3-4 times a week’ is “seriously cutting down” drinking.

I am aware that certain countries have a big drinking culture but it was still crazy for me to hear. Lots of idols tbh get spotted with tons of bottles in their apartments sometimes. Not to mention the many drinking variety shows etc. Being able to handle a lot of alchol is seen as cool, drinking everyday to relax seems normalised. It’s a little disturbing to me, especially when you have those idols documented as teens/young adults initially.

Personally- having alcohol consumption as ones hobby seems incredibly sad. I also wonder how they’d even manage that interest given that their faces shouldn’t be bloated, energy should be high and health solid given the nature of the industry and their activities. Many are also vulneranle to addictions due to the high stress nature of their occupation, the pressures and possible isolation.

I’m also biased, coming from a family with lots of functioning alcoholic relatives. I’ve partied plenty myself but thankfully didn’t have drinking streaks that lasted a week.
