Most idols (regardless of gender) are conventionally attractive, beautiful or even ethereal. But, attractive does not equal sexy. I notice this at times when idols attempt more mature concepts or more openly sexual lyrics, and as an adult, it often feels like they are replicating a teen’s idea of a sexy or mature person (even when the artist are adults themselves). They could have the aesthtics down to a T, but the raw sex appeal required to execute them is 90% absent. Maybe its just me, but there is a certain griminess/unseemliness (being okay with not looking perfect), oppenness, flirtation and sense of freedom that is needed for me to really believe it. It often even comes off as the idols aren’t having sex, so they don’t know what sexy looks like. Opening your shirt, wearing revealing clothes and dancing in a sexual way is at best a textbook method, but I don’t know if they are being forced. I also especially notice it when idols do cover or dances of sensual western songs, it’s like the company’s don’t understand what sexy should look like? Or the idols are limiting themselves?
