After how successful Stray Kids DominATE Experience global release with initial sales of over $19+ million for just 2-3 days showing (and excluding Japan and the movie is still showing at the moment), I went and check kpop concert movie numbers. I realize there are not many kpop concert movies.
This is also SKZ first concert movie, surprisingly. This number alone is similar to a US-leg tour for some of biggest kpop artists.
I feel like kpop concert movie should be normalized even if it is a limited showing as it is relatively cheaper than a concert ticket and has a bigger reach than a tour.
Movie etiquette aside (we already have that ongoing discussion at the moment), concert movie does not seem so common for kpop.
Is there a particular reason why concert movie is not a common occurance for kpop? Is it the expense to produce one? I am not familiar with this aspect of entertainment (not a regular movie goer).
And going with the same idea – there should be more kpop pop-up stores other than in Korea and Japan. If they can tour in other countries and release concert movies, should there not be pop-up stores at other places too?
