English isn’t my first language, so please excuse any mistake.
Kind of a shower thought, but I was wondering whether some idols have (distinctive) accents when speaking Korean. So I am really curious to have Korean speakers’ opinion.
Especially for foreign idols (Japanese, Thai, Chinese, American, Canadian, etc.): even though many of them have been living in Korea for a while, do they still have an accent?
For instance, iirc, in one of the HYBE Game Caterers episodes, Seventeen’s The8 makes a joke during a game about being Chinese and not knowing a particular Korean expression. Does he still have a noticeable Chinese accent when he speaks Korean?
Or like Blackswan, which is made up entirely of foreign members? They sing in Korean, but do you hear their accents when they sing or when they speak in interviews?
And, on the other hand, if we take the Seoul accent as a kind of “standard” Korean accent, are there Korean idols who were born and raised somewhere else in Korea who have retained their regional accent (assuming they had one to begin with)?
