Korean citizenship situation

So I was born in Korea but grew up in the US and got my US citizenship at 18. My understanding is that Korea generally doesn’t allow dual citizenship, but some people enlist in the Korean military for the rare case they allow it. I also heard that I won’t be able to get certain visas in the future in Korea if I renounce my Korean citizenship without doing military. I thought that was fine because I plan to live in the work and live US anyways.

But the problem now I realize, is that if I cannot support myself independently due to me not finding a job in the US, I might have to comeback to Korea, where my parents are. As far as I can tell, I can only stay in Korea for limited amount of time in that case, which is my biggest worry.

According to the guy in 병무청, I’m not even allow to do military even if I want to due to me being naturalized us citizen. Which is funny because I keep receiving letters from the government to do the military, probably because I haven’t done the 국적상실 신고 yet.

Does anyone have any advice for me what I should do? should I just renounce my Korean citizenship and forget about it? is there way to stay in Korea longer term?
