Kickflip has 5x more first day sales then streams

I just wanted to see if anyone finds how the mass buying culture can mess up with the perception of popularity as annoying as I do.

JYP’s new group Kickflip just debuted and managed to score one of the highest debut sales ever with 248k first day sales.

So naturally everyone started calling them the next monster rookies and comparing their popularity to that of bnd, Riize, tws, etc.

But now their first day streams came out and it’s just 58k.

That is almost a 5:1 ratio… It’s probably the worst one I’ve ever seen.

I honestly can’t imagine what happened here because it means that for every Spotify stream a person bought 5 copies of the album. And it’s not possible for Kplatforms streams to fill this big of a difference between the song didn’t chart anywhere. I know mass buying and pc collectors exist but it makes it so hard to believe.

I wonder how this will play out long term but I have to admit it is quite a shock to hear about a group breaking records in one metric and completely failing (compared to other 5th gen groups) in another.
