Kanye West cancels first solo concert in South Korea amid controversy

Kanye West’s (hereafter ‘YE’) first solo concert in South Korea has been canceled.

The concert organizer, Coupang Play, announced on the 19th, “Due to recent controversies surrounding artist Kanye, the ‘YE concert in South Korea’ scheduled for May 31 (Saturday) has regrettably been canceled.”

They added, “Sales of Yeezy brand MD products will also be suspended starting at 1 p.m. on May 19 (Monday).”

Previously, YE had been embroiled in controversy due to anti-Semitic remarks and promotion of Nazi ideology, and recent foreign media reports indicated that he released a song praising dictator Hitler, causing shock. He announced the single ‘Hail Hitler’ on the 8th, which is the anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, and thereafter, major streaming platforms, including Spotify, blocked the song.

Initially, the ‘YE (Kanye West) concert ‘BULLY’ in conjunction with Coupang Play’ was set to take place on May 31 at Incheon Munhak Stadium. This concert was to be YE’s first solo performance in 9 years since the world tour in 2016, and it was expected to be the first stage presenting the live performance of the new song ‘BULLY’ to Korean fans, but it was ultimately canceled due to the controversy.
