K-pop fans expecting 4th and 5th gen girl groups to match the touring numbers of Blackpink and Twice is already setting them to a higher standard.

Recently, videos of Aespa’s concert in Brazil have been circulating online due to the empty seats that were not bought went tickets of their concert had gone on for sale. This of course had led to discussions about 4th and 5th gen girl groups lack of demand in touring compared to their seniors Blackpink and Twice. There were even some comments comparing the touring results between girl groups and boy groups in K-pop when it comes to results of ticket sales at their concerts. In my opinion, I think expectations surrounding 4th and 5th gen girl groups needing to meet the touring results of Blackpink and Twice puts them at a higher standard in K-pop. Blackpink is considered an anomaly and has sold out stadiums in Asia, North America, Europe, and Mexico. Twice is very popular in their own right and has sold out stadiums in Asia, North America, South America, and Oceania in the past tour stops.

4th and 5th gen girl groups are still rising in popularity and matching touring numbers of their senior girl groups takes time. Regarding the comparisons to boy groups, both sides attract a different type of fanbase as girl groups lean into attracting a more casual fanbase while boy groups tend to attract a more dedicated fanbase. Despite this girl groups are still doing good when it comes to touring as Itzy, Aespa, Le Sserafim, and Babymonster are achieving amazing concert results with tour stops. However, it just takes time for girl groups to match the touring records of that of Blackpink and Twice.
