Okay so like it says in the title, I have been an ATEEZ fan since /debut/. Like I’m talking October 2018, I remember when Atiny became the fandom name, I was there when it was announced. And I still love ATEEZ. I think I will forever love ATEEZ. This isn’t a snark post and I’m not here to hate on them, but like…their comebacks have become so generic.
I like BAD, I think it’s a catchy song, the music video is fun, oh my gOD Yeosang I swear has never looked better (obvs he’s my bias loll), but don’t tell me that’s a song that just ATEEZ can do.
I casually listen to a lot of Kpop, and have respect for a lot of groups! I studied in Korea, researching the Hallyu wave and who contributed to it. But I have only ever found myself stanning three groups–BTS, ATEEZ, and XG (which I know isn’t Kpop but stick with me). Notice the pattern there? I really love them because they brought something new to the table, each of them. ATEEZ’s character concepts were something I loved /so/ much. I loved the pirates, I loved the cowboys, I loved the messeging of their songs, it felt like there was so much heart in them, I thought they were going to skyrocket, and in a lot of ways they have!
But now that they’ve reached a level of fame and for right now are pretty solid in their standing in Kpop, their comebacks have gotten so generic. IoMT is one of my least favorite songs of theirs. I saw it and was like, “…Okay? You’ve had so much to say in other concepts, so much story to tell, and now this?” I didn’t even pay super close attention to the storyline like other Atinys, but I saw the care that went into it and /really/ respected them for it.
Their intros and outros were so good, even if there were hardly any vocals. I enjoyed songs like Declaration, which is literally just Yunho on the backtrack of Answer given the time to /shine/ and he did. I’m telling you I know their discography front to back, and I will always love it. ATEEZ is an important group to me. I still enjoy the music they put out, I just wish it was more…ATEEZ, you know? It’s not even against them specifically.
They have improved in so many ways, singing, dancing (which has been so good since debut but even more so now), fashion, the like. I’m literally saying this as a fan who /still/ loves and adores them. I want to see ATEEZ stand out again. I understand Kpop is a factory industry, and a lot of groups do really similar things. But to me, ATEEZ stood out, and I really love them for it. I just want to see them stand out again. I’m going to keep supporting them, and unless something goes terribly wrong, I will probably support them for as long as they are a band, but these are just the conflicting thoughts I’ve been having, and I feel really bad as a fan for having them
