I sometimes wish Katseye WAS primarily a K-Pop group because I do NOT like how American/Western fans and media treat groups.

I know obviously they’d to deal with way more potential xenophobia, racism, colorism and general ignorance but still, they’d have to deal with that to an extent no matter where they go.

At least in Korean media, there isn’t this constant annoying discourse like “She’s the star, she’s the Beyonce, no one would be checking for the group without [insert member here]”. Borderline toxic shit.

I mean no matter how popular idol, there isn’t a lot of that shit like “Wonyoung should go solo” or “Karina should go solo”, no one’s really saying that because obviously groups are the norm in Kpop.

American entertainment LOVES to try and tear groups apart. That’s just how the West is nowadays. They always want someone to be “star” or “the main character”. Even groups that push equality like Little Mix and FLO get that commentary.

Back in the early to mid 90s, when groups were at the height of their popularity, with the likes of Boyz II Men, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and TLC this mentality wasn’t really a thing.

But with the rise of social media and the solo success of certain members of Nsync and of course, Destiny’s Child, the West is OBSESSED with pushing one member, it’s like they just can’t help themselves.

I’ve been around online and I’ve seen quite a few people perpetuating this toxic rherotic around Katseye, especially on Tiktok. As you can guess it’s mostly about Manon, and to a lesser extent Lara.

And one thing tho, at lot of these people just be talking because they go on and on about “solo this and that” I guarantee you the minute any member of Katseye releases solo music, they will let that shit flop…hard.

Y’all acting like they’ll get Harry Styles, Justin Timberlake and even Beyonce results. Please, those artists are the exception, not the norm.
