How is Lee Chang-Dong Viewed in South Korea?

Hi everyone, film director Lee Chang-Dong’s “Burning” from 2018 really stuck with me after I watched it during a difficult moment in my life a few years ago.

I was wondering how his work is viewed by South Koreans themselves. Is he a popular director domestically? How do the themes in his films reflect (or not) life in SK? Does his work resonate with you?

Thanks!
