How did KATSEYE get so big, and could their formula work for a Western boyband?

For people who have followed KATSEYE since Dream Academy: what do you think were the biggest factors behind them becoming so popular so quickly?

I’m curious about things like the survival/formation show, showing the members’ personalities and relationships, documenting their training, building a fandom before debut, social media/TikTok, music releases, HYBE/Geffen’s marketing, and the Netflix documentary.

If a Western pop boyband wanted to use a similar strategy (without copying KATSEYE or making it K-pop), what parts of their formula do you think would actually work for a new group today?

Would documenting the five members’ journey from formation → training → recording → debut be enough to build a fanbase before the first song comes out, or would something more like a competition/reality show be necessary?
