Frozen foods in Korea are exceptionally well-made. In the photo, the Ugeoji-gamjatang (dried cabbage and pork bone soup) and Tonkatsu are ready-made products; I only prepared the rice, fried egg, and the stir-fried kimchi with tuna myself. Because there are so many brands and a wide variety of retort foods in Korea, the intense competition has driven the quality to an impressive level. By adding just a few extra seasonings or ingredients, you can easily replicate the taste of a professional restaurant.

The Ugeoji-gamjatang had generous portions of cabbage and meat, and the flavor was perfectly balancedโ€”not too salty and very delicious. For the Tonkatsu, I mixed the traditional sauce with Buldak (spicy chicken) sauce. The subtle blend of sweet and spicy made it savory without being overwhelmingly hot.
