Germany’s unification from a Korean viewpoint?

The unification of West & East Germany is one of the most positive moments in Germany’s (& probably the world’s) 20th century history.

I remember that it was discussed thoroughly in history classes. Reasons why after 40 years of a wall, there still was the desire to find a way to each other, moments that acted as a catalyst, the unification process, the economic side of things and consequences that can still be felt today.

Was/Is Korea paying attention to that moment in Germany’s history? What are the reasons why Korea couldn’t make the same happen as what went down at Germany in 1989/1990?

Can Germany’s unification process still inspire Korea 35 years later or has the ship sailed in that regard?

(If you have additional questions about Germany 1989/1990, feel free to ask 😊)
