Scenario: Someone makes a ‘hate post’ about your fav group.
When you comment, even if you think you are being positive, you are actually just creating the engagement they crave by flaming the fire. It is what they want. Nothing you can say will convince these people to stop hating. They are just born to hate. So why do you engage with these people?
Be honest with yourself and think about the last time you tried to defend against a toxic person online. You have never changed their mind. They continue to be a piece of shite. The only thing you achieve by getting into these coversations/arguments is the acceleration your own mental degredation. You are not ‘helping your fav group/idol’ by defending them. You are not ‘standing up for what is right’. You are not being a ‘true fan’. When you get into arguments with these types of people you are actively making everything worse. Nothing you can do will make the group/individual get less hate from these people.
Healthy people will avoid engaging with these ‘hate posts’. They block these people and move on with their life. Anyone that engages with these posts on either side is deluded. If you try to defend your idols/groups in these toxic environments you are just being the K-Pop version of that cliché ‘white knight bearded neckbeard’ stereotype.
What ever happened to just whimsically vibing and enjoying your fav pop songs and watching the cute/cool dances? That is how everyones K-Pop journey began. You didn’t start out as a keyboard warrior fighting with horrible people online in the comment box. It was pure wholesome fun and excitement for the spectacle of it all. Waiting for the next comeback with anticipation. Watching a MV on repeat because you love it oh so much! Sharing your fav tracks with your friends. Imagining going to a concert and perhaps eventually getting the opportunity to make that a reality! But then because you couldnt just ignore the horrible people online you became tainted… Your experience and contribution to K-Pop became a hellscape of hate… It went from technicolour to a dull grey… Your light faded…
If you felt that I was talking about you directly in this post maybe look in the mirror and ask yourself what you are actually doing here in K-Pop spaces. If you avoid engaging with hate then this does not apply to you so please disregard the personally targeted language I chose. You are doing good.
Let’s all log off once in a while and reset our perspective. I won’t be commenting in this thread but feel free to discuss if you want. Instead I’m going disable notifications and go watch some TWICE music videos again because they make me happy.
