I’m specifically talking about the timing. Obviously, we’ve only heard a teaser, so it’s impossible to fully judge the song yet. But considering that none of the groups that came back in June have really made much noise or performed particularly well on the charts. Not saying the songs are bad, just saying that the songs didn’t resonate with the public. Also, many of the big hits from April and May are starting to lose momentum, so they’re in a pretty ideal position from a competition standpoint.
Another underrated point that no one is really talking about is that the World Cup isn’t generating much noise in Korea this time around. A lot of it seems to come down to the current sentiment toward Korean Football Federation and the broadcasting monopoly situation with JTBC. Because of that, I don’t think the tournament will have much of an effect on music virality this summer, which is another factor working in their favor.
They’re also riding a pretty big wave of momentum from RUDE!, so at the moment it feels like they’re in a good position to do well commercially with all the luck on their side!
