Foreign trainees are on another level, and they deserve more recognition.
Hey everyone, I just watched Chat Hearts2Hearts, the reality show about SM’s new girl group, and one part really stuck with me is Carmen’s story.
She shared how tough it was when she first became a trainee. Everyone around her was already so skilled, while she was still at a beginner level, struggling to catch up. On top of that, she wasn’t from Korea and couldn’t speak the language, so making friends wasn’t easy. She felt isolated but chose to focus on training alone, pushing herself to improve.
What’s really impressive is that she joined SM at just 16, without knowing Korean, and still managed to debut in only two years. And in their debut song and B-side, she has a solid amount of distribution lines, which shows how much she’s grown.
I can’t imagine the pressure of being a foreign trainee at such a young age, competing with people who have trained for years. But her story proves that hard work and determination can close any gap. Just because someone started earlier doesn’t mean they’ll finish ahead.
