Do you think it’s actually possible to separate the art from the artist?

This is something I’ve been thinking about lately and I’m curious where people stand on it.

I know at the end of the day it’s up to each person to decide if they want to keep supporting an artist after a controversy. I’m not talking about ridiculous stuff like people getting mad that an idol didn’t wave at fans or that they showed a normal human emotion. I mean actual situations where an artist does something you personally find offensive or morally wrong.

Do you think it’s possible to still enjoy their music while not supporting or agreeing with them as a person? Like separating the art from the individual behind it?

Some people say once they know something about the artist it completely ruins the music for them, while others say the music itself can still stand on its own.

I’m curious how people approach it. Is separating the art from the artist actually possible for you, or does the artist always affect how you hear the music?
