Why is Korean dubbing uncommon or rare for games? I am mainly talking about games made by either Japanese & Western developers. (They at least UI translation.)

For example, you can select audio language for Japanese, English, French, German which are the top contenders for a majority of games since countries who speak those languages have an established voice acting industry, so they are well off with voice acting, since most professional voice actors have prior experience with being the casting roles in anime, the medium around being the voices behind video game characters isn’t new to them.

When considering on dubbing the game in Korean (not only translating text), the localization team has to take into account on reconfiguring lip sync on matching the dub (for example Life is Strange’s Japanese dub was reworked by Square Enix to match character’s mouth animations to Japanese speech patterns making it more natural as if the characters are actually speaking Japanese.) so it’s a lot of work.

The thing is that Korean is spoken differently to both Japanese & English, so Korean developers who have experience with facial animations are qualified to rework lip sync to match the speech patterns with Korean by utilizing powerful AI tools and software. Voice actors also need to be careful of the wording choices for it to line up with the lip sync, otherwise this can lead to late timings and “speaking when not meant to” type scenarios.

There are games that have Korean dubbing (i.e. White Day) but that was made by Koreans. What I mean is AAA titles made by larger studios abroad that have the UI & subs translated into Korean, it’s similar to asking “Why is there barely any anime coming from Korea since a majority of it is Japanese?” Is Korean voice acting bad or just meh when comparing it to voice acting in either Japanese & English?
