I know that De:Va’s pre-debut introduction to the world has been very rocky but I genuinely hope that they get through this and make it to debut. The Mei/Anna scandal is the only seriously bad thing the group has gone through because that girl was an actual danger and active violently anti-black racist who has not only repeatedly said the n-word but also has numerous videos of her assaulting black women. I’m glad she’s gone and I think a 4-group roll out is fine. Kia’s scandal isn’t that bad to me. I thought she was an adult when it happened but finding out she was a teenager makes a lot of sense to me. Being a parasocial delusional kid who thinks she could have a chance with her idols isn’t a crime and honestly the weirdest part is the Pinterest boards because lots of k-pop fans write fanfics about k-pop but also she was clearly young and calling the boards “me and [idol’s] babies” just proves she was a young kid. Obviously she should’ve addressed it and I’m glad she did but she shouldn’t have made a statement first because Mei/Anna being anti-black is way more serious. Being parasocial isn’t a crime and I don’t think her career should end over it. It honestly sounds like something you would here in a k-pop “We listen and we don’t judge” tiktok lmao. I don’t mean to say that it was good like obviously it was weird but kids in fandom are weird and she’s obviously grown from it. Her situation is like of you found out a celebrity wrote “My mum sold me to BTS” fan fiction or something. Weird but something you can grow from. I saw someone reflect on them being a septiplier shipper when they were 11 and I think Kia’s situation is similar to that. It’s good that she apologised and I want them to grow. I hope they can become successful when they debut and I’m very excited for it. I love global girl groups like this and with De:Va we’ll have like 3 now. And like 5 black idols! Fatou and Nvee from Blackswan,Manon from Katseye,and now Sylvia and Kia! Not a lot obviously but fun. I’m excited:).
