Okay, can we talk about ATEEZ getting 5 MAMA nominations for a second?? And TWO of them are for Daesangs, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year! I know the competition is tough this year, but I’m honestly just so happy for them. They’ve come such a long way, and seeing them nominated in these categories makes me so proud.
It also feels a little surreal considering all the speculation about ATEEZ and Mnet over the years. There have been so many discussions about them not appearing on certain Mnet shows and whether something was going on behind the scenes. Obviously, none of that was ever confirmed, but I think a lot of us were starting to wonder if we’d ever see them at MAMA again.
One thing that has always bothered me is how easily people underestimate ATEEZ. I can’t help but feel that if they were from one of the Big 4 companies, their achievements would get a lot more attention. They’ve come so far since debuting under a small company, and sometimes I feel like people still don’t give them enough credit for that. They’ve sold millions of albums, toured all over the world, performed at huge venues, and built such a loyal fanbase. And somehow, there are still people acting like they don’t belong at the same award shows as other major groups. I even saw someone bringing up unofficial MAMA Daesang predictions and pointing out that ATEEZ weren’t in the top 10, almost as if that meant they weren’t worth inviting to MAMA. Like, since when did not being predicted to win mean an artist doesn’t deserve to attend?
They literally just won Icon of the Year at TMA, and now they’re up for two Daesangs at MAMA. Even if they don’t win either one, I’m still incredibly proud of them. Being nominated in those categories is already something worth celebrating. And now I’m really hoping they actually attend! I miss seeing ATEEZ on the MAMA stage. Just imagine what they could do with BAD. We already know that performance would be insane, and I’d love it if they included Adrenaline too.
I don’t know, I just feel like ATEEZ are constantly having to prove themselves when they’ve already accomplished so much. I really hope more people start recognizing that. Whatever happens at MAMA this year, I’m just happy to see them getting this recognition. They’ve worked so hard to get here, and they deserve to enjoy every bit of it.
