I just wanted to talk about this song for a moment because it is not often that such heartfelt ballads have familial love as the centric force. Boynextdoor did such a commendable and honest job on this song that it’s made me cry practically every single time I’ve listened to Forever You.
The lyrics just tug at your heartstrings and don’t let go. The melody is absolutely gut-wrenching while maintaining an almost false gentleness that makes the listening experience feel safe despite the heavy content within.
If you’re a onedoor, you probably know about the passing of Woonhak’s grandfather and how much of an impact it had on him. His dedication to his grandpa is genuinely so moving. He poured so much into this song and I admire him for it.
The other members also have such lovely yet relatable sentiments expressed towards their parents. Jaehyun’s rap verse is mellow but the image it paints is something most of us have gone through. Growing up and learning how difficult life must have been for our parents, wondering if we should spend more time with them, missing the little mundane moments we shared under the same roof…
We don’t see such songs in kpop often and I just wanted to let anyone who was searching for such lyrical content know about it. It’s a super thoughtfully made track and I hope you give it a shot!
And if you’ve already heard it and been impacted by this song, hugs to you! 🫂🫂
