A little questionnaire for all those like me who got into K-pop way later than they found it. 🙂

  1. When was the first time (or the timeline if more than one occasion) you technically discovered K-pop?
  2. When did you ACTUALLY discover it (the time you actually became a stan/listener)?
  3. Why didn’t you the first time?
  4. What made you finally join the club?
  5. Do you have any regrets about not being here earlier?

My answers:

  1. 2011ish I believe, there was this whole thing about Girls’ Generation’s “Born To Be a Lady” vs. Demi Lovato’s “Mistake.” Not sure whose was first but that was it. Then Gangnam Style went viral (I didn’t know that was K-pop though), then the tragic passings of a few idols over the years (RIP to them 😔) and in 2016 a classmate recommended I listen to it. I heard “Save Me” by BTS, enjoyed it, and then that was it. 😂

  2. I saw everyone talking about BTS’ “Dynamite” in 2020, gave it a listen, watched the video, and thought, “wow…these guys are sooo cool.”

  3. I didn’t get into it the first time because…well, I just don’t think I really KNEW what it was. 💀

  4. I don’t think I ever intended on becoming a stan, it just happened. I have a natural fangirl gene in me that’ll never go away. Plus the boyband I was stanning before I switched was hella problematic and the majority of their fandom (including me) decided we were done with them and moved on.

  5. Do I wish I was here all those years? Oh yeah, definitely. Am I gonna cry over spilled milk? Absolutely not. I love where I am now. 🫶🏾
