and before I start I will say that I am a reveluv since 2018-2019 and ive been streaming red velvet ever since then, Solo projects, Irene and Seulgis activities, you name it, i loved it. So this is not an attack on red velvet themselves i really really REALLLYYY love them, and surfin boy is one of my favorite comebacks of the year
but unfortunately their Spotify debut streams number was less than a lot of people imagined. Certain fandoms have even took the opportunity to make fun of Red Velvet, saying they flopped and no one cares about them anymore, and comparing their stats to red velvet’s in order to humiliate them
But my personal take away from this was that a lot of “reveluvs” dont miss red velvet as much as they say that they did. More often than not on tiktok and on twitter, you’d see viral posts using their music and vocals to drag down other groups, but when it came time to support a group whos having a comeback after 2 years, suddenly everybody on mute.
and yeah yeah “for the arts not for the charts” but think about it. SM entertainment has already been putting red velvet in the basement time snd time again, and if we want to see red velvet more often, if we want to have them tour in the U.S., if we want all of those fancy promotions and etc etc, we have to show that the demand is STILL THERE.
I do understand that red velvet’s concept is inherently gonna be their biggest strength and weakness as a group since people are often gonna care more about 1 comeback more than the other, but the dramatic decline from cosmic to this new era is nothing short of disappointing.
Hopefully now, we can get rid of all of these fake reveluvs, and we can restart anew.
