A 70 year old family friend absolutely loves BTS (An interesting interaction)

Sorry for the weird title, I wasn’t sure what to put. I had a somewhat interesting interaction last week. Just a little bit of background.

I’ve been into BTS since predebut and saw them several times I’m 2014 and 2017 when they came to Australia. And been a fan of kpop since 2010. Absolutely love seeing them grow throughout all of those years. I collected a lot of their merch and eventually stopped in 2019 because it was all getting too much and sold my collection. I stopped following them as closely as I used to when they were doing their solo stuff (at that time in my life, I didn’t have much time).

And now for the interaction. I went to a family dinner and a 70 year old family friend was there. I randomly saw her comment on a BTS Facebook post and that’s how I knew she liked them. She was telling me she found them during Dynamite and Butter era (as a lot of new fans did). It was around that time where I lost a bit of interest. But the friend was telling me how happy they make her, how she loves seeing their passion how they train so hard and she even went onto say how Hobi was doing sexy things at his tour. 😂 She hasn’t searched for other kpop groups, only BTS.

It was an interesting interaction to say the least. But one thing that threw me off was when she said “I like their English songs more. I can’t understand their Korean songs”. I was explaining to her how some of their older music are some of their best music in my opinion but she said she mostly listens to their English releases. I’m not one to judge but I feel like she’s missing out on a lot.

Anyway, that’s my random post. I think it’s quite interesting how groups can reach fans of all ages.

Do you have any personal stories to share about your journey as a kpop fan?
