First of all, I’m a briize so this isn’t coming from a place of shade or hatred. Riize being the first group debuting 7y after nct i think they’ve fallen quite short. When you look at sm groups they’re like the whole package if ykwim. Hybe has a lot of performance based idols while yg focuses a lot of rap but sm has a good balance of visual, dance and especially vocals. I’ve been a yg stan for the longest time but slowly shifted to sm bcs their vocalists are literally unmatched. My ults are from yg but i can whole heartedly say that sm has produced generational talent with artists like baekhyun, taemin, jonghyun, wendy etc. I’m an nct ult so shotaro and sungchan shifting from nct to Riize kinda irked me a bit so i didn’t engage in Riize for a while but their music just found their way to me and i started stanning them. I can’t help but feel that they’re lacking severely in vocals like sm is known for hootering and hollering but Riize seems like they’re just there to sing for the sake of singing and add some dance performances.
Their early encores were honestly horrendous 😭 it’s been three years since their debut and they’ve grown a lot especially Anton and Sohee but it’s like the rest have just been so stagnant. The exit of lsm has sucked the passion out of sm vocals im gonna bffr. When you listen to sm groups there’s always going to be a WOW factor; do and baek (exo) for example their voices are just so distinct and you just know it’s them and their vocal range and technique just makes you want to stop and listen to them. I haven’t found that in Riize yet. Sohee is a good vocalist but not an exceptional one i think, nct wish’s jaehee clears him any day and it’s kinda sad. Riize has so much potential but the ent doesn’t do shit for them and gives them flopping music material. Even the promotions are subpar and it’s like they only care about rolling out the physical albums and increasing sales cause wdym odyssey has 23 physical versions??? Sm isn’t even trying to hide the fact that they js want money while giving the fans mid songs and performances.
Riize’s II mini album i feel was the best album in their entire discography. The b-sides can be title tracks and i genuinely enjoyed listening to their music as compared to their new album which was just fine. I js rlly wish members like eunseok and shotaro can get better training and more lines + screen time cause they’re so talented. taro is more than js a dancer and eunseok is always treated like a backup dancer for Riize.
