I feel like this conversation has moved into a massive gray area. Even though blatant lip syncing is rare, vocal splits, loud backtracks and live AR are practically the industry standards in order to support intense choreo.. This is fine, but it becomes an issue when you see sound engineers deliberately boost mic gain to let breath sounds and plosives cut through. Which then tricks people into thinking the vocals are completely live when it’s the backtrack that is doing all the heavy lifting and fans end up praising raw vocal stability that simply did not happen.
For fans that have attended concerts or are hoping to attend in the future:
- Does your standard for a live singing concert change based on idols because of the dance ability or does the heavy reliance on backtrack still bother you?
- If you found out that a group or artist you like barely sings live and relies heavily on backtracks and vocal splits, would you still spend money on their concert ticket?
- If you were previously against heavy splits and loud backtracks but attended a concert anyway, did the live experience change your opinion?
- Which groups are currently the standard for acceptable live singing in your opinion?
