Moving out of my Seoul Apartment next week_managed to get 420,000KRW back form my landlord for 'Jangi Suseon' Check your past bills!

Hey everyone,

just wanted to write a quick post because I almost missed out on this money and thought it might help other expats here.

I’ve been living in my apartment in Mapo for the past 2 years and I’m moving out next Monday. A korean coworker asked me if I got my ‘Janggi Suseon Chungdanggeum'(장기수선충당금) refund from the landlord. I had zero idea what that was.

Turns out, it’s a long-term building repair fund that gets included in our monthly management bills(관리비). Even though tenants pay it monthly with utilities, by Korean law(housing act), the LONDLORD is legally responsible for this cost!

I got the official breakdown form my building management office(관리사무소), and it totaled around 420,000 KRW over 24 months. I brought it up to my landlord, and she transferred the full amount to my account yesterday!

If you are moving out soon, DO NOT forget to request this from your landlord. Hope this helps someone save money.
