I’ve been having some thought into this and it’s very fitting in the situation surrounding the discussions around Enhypen. So during the recent live of Jungwon he made some clarifications surrounding the ot7 chants and how like he’s saying that Enhypen is now 6 members (please correct me if I’m wrong). It also reminded me of the similar discourse too in Jay’s birthday live last April.
It did have sparked a lot of reactions, particularly from those types of OT7 fans who are still hoping Heeseung might return. Some people even point to some recent content he’s still appearing in, even though it’s likely those were filmed before he left the group. I’ve seen some fans going as far as directing their frustration towards Jungwon, while somewhat others believe the members were forced by the company to say those things. But looking at the situation, though, it feels like the remaining members are being put in an uncomfortable position where they’re expected to manage fans’ emotions over a decision that may not have been theirs to make and even if they did or did not speak out about it.
From what we know, it seems that Heeseung’s departure was ultimately his own choice. Since that’s the case I don’t think it’s fair to shift blame on him or the remaining members of the group. To me I think the bigger issue is that some fans are struggling to accept or kind of grasp that type of reality in a way. I mean don’t get me wrong I know OT7 still does hit different to many including me I felt a severe shock too when that announcement came up, but at the same time, I feel like those particular fans are pushing it way too far at this point which could make it harder for both the group and also Heesung in moving forward where they are.
In that sense, I actually understand why Jungwon, as the leader, would want to maturely clarify the group’s current situation. It might be a hard to swallow pill to some fans, but I guess that’s the truth and perhaps it was necessary to set expectations and help fans slowly come to terms with the reality.
So that got me wondering:
how do fans eventually come to terms with a member leaving, especially when it was their own decision? If you’ve experienced something similar with another group, what really helped you accept it? Is it still also acceptable to think about the nostalgic moments when that member was in the group? Do you think it’s okay to continue supporting the former member while also accepting the group’s new lineup, or is that easier said than done?
I wanna know your thoughts?
