This isn’t meant to be a doompost like the other one currently on the subreddit about them needing to disband or whatever. That’s nonsense. I just want to talk about their music.
For several years now, their music just hasn’t been resonating with listeners and their chart performances both domestically and internationally have reflected that. Some people might say chart performance has nothing to do with a song’s quality and I largely agree. But in this specific case, I just don’t think i-dle has been producing music that’s particularly well written or composed.
Gimme Dat Love feels so flat and generic that there’s honestly not much to write home about. I had high expectations for this latest album since they even delayed it, and I assumed it was because they wanted to polish the overall quality and make the EP feel more complete. Instead, I found the end result including the b-sides, pretty disappointing. I also wasn’t a fan of it being only a five song EP with Mono included. It’s a project that lacks in both quantity and quality.
I felt the same way about the We Are EP last year. In the past, I’ve always thought i-dle excelled at b-sides, but that release felt surprisingly lackluster as well. As for the title track, Good Thing, I genuinely think it’s the weakest tt in their entire discography.
But this is just one person’s opinion. I wanna hear your thoughts on this. What do you guys think it is about their current sound that’s just not resonating with listeners?
