Hello! I’m an Indian k-pop fan (ok that’s a bad start to this post I think) and have also been teaching myself Korean over the past five years, albeit really slowly, so I must be somewhere in the beginner-intermediate range?
tmi lol?
Anyway, I had needed an online pseudonym for an account (it was to separate my account from my friends) some time back, and couldn’t think of a name to use, so I had gone with Areum, which is really close in meaning to my irl name.
I use this first name solely as this aforementioned pseudonym. However, out of pure curiosity, I was wondering if it would be disrespectful or incorrect for me to go looking for or adopt a last name too? Specifically Heo (허), since that was the last name of Queen Heo Hwang-ok, who – if im hopefully not mistaken – was the Indian princess who was married to King Kim Suro. It is purely due to this Indian connection that i had been wondering if i could adopt this name.
Ofc I wouldn’t do it if it would be incorrect of me to do so, and gosh do I hope this isn’t making me sound like a Koreaboo, but I would really be grateful for insights!
