There’s a really strong K-pop idol wave in Melon Top 10 right now

This is one of the most diverse and stacked the Melon Top 10 has looked in a long time when it comes to K-pop music released by idols. Normally, the upper ranks of the chart are mixed with non-kpop tracks, OSTs, or general public hits, with only a few idol groups consistently holding spots near the top, like aespa or IVE. Off the top of my head, I can’t remember the top of the Melon chart looking this idol-heavy in recent memory.

At the current hour, the chart looks like this:

  1. Cortis – REDRED
  2. AKMU – Paradise of Rumors
  3. ILLIT – It’s Me
  4. AKMU – Joy, Sorrow, A Beautiful Heart
  5. NMIXX – Heavy Serenade
  6. Hearts2Hearts – RUDE!
  7. YENA – Catch Catch
  8. BTS – SWIM
  9. Hanroro – Landing in Love
  10. KiiiKiii – 404 (New Era)

Honorable Mention: IVE – BANG BANG (#11)

The reason I’m giving IVE an honorable mention is because when I began writing this post during the previous hour, they were actually still inside the Top 10 while BTS’ SWIM was just outside of it. But after refreshing the chart, SWIM moved up and BANG BANG dropped to #11, so I figured they still deserved a shoutout.

Anyway, it’s been a while since we’ve seen the Melon Top 10 this packed with idol music. Outside of AKMU and Hanroro, who aren’t idols, we currently have 8 different K-pop artists filling up the top spots. That’s honestly not a very common sight.

H2H and KiiiKiii have been showing longevity with their hits from earlier this year. Cortis, ILLIT, and YENA all went viral with their April releases, with hook-heavy songs built around fast danceable beats and catchy choreo & choruses. And now NMIXX is the newest entry, already climbing into the Top 5 just a week after release.

It’s nice to see these K-pop groups thriving!
